Ford Ranger Plug-In Hybrid 2025: It was about time!

As you probably already know, Ford is delivering a new generation of the Ranger for 2024. The American manufacturer's midsize pickup truck has been significantly modernized, now offering three mechanical options. Additionally, a Raptor version is being added to the Ranger family in North America for 2024. In short, we thought we were finally getting the full menu, but that's not the case after all.

Ford has just unveiled a plug-in hybrid version of the Ranger. The only slight drawback is that this version will not be available here in North America. The model will first be marketed in Europe and Australia. For now, Ford has not mentioned any other markets, but it is not impossible that the American manufacturer will eventually offer this version here, especially if there is strong demand. After all, we now have the Ranger Raptor.

Efficient and Competent

The mechanics of the Ford Ranger Plug-In Hybrid consist of a 2.3-liter turbocharged engine and an electric motor. The power of this combination is not yet known, but Ford has clearly stated that the engine torque will be higher than that of all other versions of the model. Specifically, the Raptor version has a torque of 430 pound-feet.

This towing capability will allow the Ford Ranger PHEV to tow loads of up to 7,700 pounds. Furthermore, the off-road capabilities of the American truck should not be affected by the additional weight of the battery.

As for the range, the results obtained by the WLTP method are 45 kilometers on a full charge. We should expect slightly lower figures in North America since the EPA calculation method is slightly different. Nevertheless, I still believe that the Ranger PHEV would have its place in our market.

The plug-in hybrid Ranger will offer Pro-Power technology, allowing you to use your vehicle as a generator. The power of the system is not yet known, but Ford indicates that it will be "sufficient to power campsites or remote work sites."

Production of the Ford Ranger Plug-In Hybrid will begin at the end of 2024, which means the first units will be delivered in early 2025. Now, we can only hope that Ford decides to add this version to the North American lineup of the Ranger.
